Grandmother Ruby

Chris's grandmother, Ruby, passed away on Sunday and today was her funeral. I will not go into a lot of detail but I just want to share the love between Ruby and her husband of almost 60 years. Sid and Ruby have had a long sweet marriage and it was so hard for him to lose his wife. Papa Sid had a pretty hard time comprehending everything that was going on so he asked a lot of questions over the past couple of days. We had to tell him several times that she was gone. A couple of times while we were at Hospice his mind would clear up a little and he would hold her hand and tell her what a good wife and mother she was and he would even pray over her bed. What a sweet sweet thing to witness. They are a wonderful example to Chris and I. Today right before they closed the casket he stood over her and told her "bye-I'll see you in Heaven one day"

I love Papa Sid and Grandmother Ruby as my own grandparents. They have always welcomed me into their family with open arms. I am proud to have a daughter named after Papa. Sydney is handling things pretty well. She said she was okay because she would just remember Grandmother how she used to be instead of how she was when she was sick. How sweet.
Please keep Papa Sid in your prayers while he deals with his loss. Pray that his mind will stay clear so he can remember the sweet memories that they have had over these past long years!

Ruby Davis
TUSCALOOSA Ruby Davis, age 80, of Tuscaloosa, died April 6, 2008, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 11 a.m. today at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home with Dr. Donald Payne officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Heritage Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to services at the funeral home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Onie Dockins; sisters, Vernice Crawford and Ala Mae Stevenson; and brothers, Clifton Dockins and W. L. "Pete" Dockins.

Survivors include her husband, Sidney Davis, Jr. of Tuscaloosa; her daughters, Sandra Watkins (Gary) of Tuscaloosa and Lynn Godwin (Tommy) of Tuscaloosa; her son, Glenn Davis (Debra) of Tuscaloosa; her sisters, Shirley Cummingham (J. W.) of Northport and Rhudene Everett of Melbourne, Ark.; her brother, Bill Dockins (Lena) of Oxford, Ark.; and her grandchildren, Eric Sprayberry, Chad Sprayberry, Chris Sprayberry (Caroline), Amy Woods (Jeff), Kimberly Godwin, and Jessica Godwin.

Her smile and laughter and touch would light up a room. Her family was her life and joy. Her grandchildren visits brightened her days, as did her great grandchildren. She brightened everyone's days and will continue through our "precious memories."

Pallbearers will be Randy Dockins, Ricky Dockins, Tony Crawford, Ken Davis, Jeff Woods, Chris Sprayberry, Danny Wallace, and Phil Broyles.

Honorary pallbearers are special sister-in-law Ann Dockins, Sandra Pierce, Carl and Mary Frances Davis, Ed and Evelyn Davis, Cheryl Wallace, Charles and Cornelia Davis, Clarence and Doris Davis, Howard and Edna Davis, Joe and Ruby Ball, James and Doris Stewart, Lenford and Oleta Godwin, Dr. Elwin Crawford, Dr. John Waites, Dr. Steve Lovelady, staff of Morning Pointe Assisted Living, friends of Forest Lake Baptist Church, and Hospice of West Alabama.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of West Alabama.
